Texas State Senator Angela Paxton Files for Divorce from Attorney General Ken Paxton, Citing Infidelity

McKinney, Texas
– Texas State Senator Angela Paxton has officially filed for divorce from her husband, Attorney General Ken Paxton, citing adultery and irreconcilable differences in court documents filed in Collin County.

In a public statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Angela Paxton, a Republican representing parts of North Texas, announced her decision to end the couple’s nearly four-decade-long marriage. She emphasized the spiritual and emotional weight behind her decision, stating:

“I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation. But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.”

She further added that she is “moving forward with complete confidence that God is always working everything together for the good of those who love Him.”

Shortly after her post, Ken Paxton, who is currently campaigning for the U.S. Senate seat held by John Cornyn, shared his own statement on the platform:

“After facing the pressures of countless political attacks and public scrutiny, Angela and I have decided to start a new chapter in our lives. I remain proud of our family and committed to supporting our children and grandchildren. We ask for privacy and prayers during this time.”

According to court filings, Angela Paxton alleges that Ken Paxton engaged in extramarital affairs and that the couple has been living separately since June 2024. The petition describes the marriage as “insupportable” due to “discord or conflict of personalities… that prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation.”

Ken Paxton, also a Republican, has been under intense political scrutiny for years. He has faced allegations of infidelity, corruption, and abuse of office throughout his time in public service. During his 2023 impeachment trial, he was accused of using his position to benefit a woman with whom he allegedly had an affair. Although the trial ended in acquittal, the accusations have persisted.

In a separate legal matter, Paxton recently reached a plea agreement to resolve long-standing felony securities fraud charges, avoiding trial by agreeing to community service and financial restitution.

Ken Paxton began serving as Texas Attorney General in 2015, after ten years in the Texas Legislature. Angela Paxton, a former school counselor and education advocate, was elected to the Texas Senate in 2019, representing Collin, Hunt, and Rains counties.

The couple, married since 1986, has four adult children and five grandchildren. Angela Paxton gained national attention early in her political career for her support of her husband and for a campaign jingle where she referred to herself as a “pistol-packin’ mama.”

Ken Paxton has built a reputation as a hardline conservative, opposing abortion rights, LGBTQ+ protections, and pushing for expanded state control over election-related prosecutions.

With the divorce proceedings now public, political observers suggest the split may influence the dynamics of the 2026 U.S. Senate race, where Paxton is challenging Senator John Cornyn, a long-time critic of his ethical record.

Cornyn’s campaign has so far declined to comment on the divorce filing.
